Angels Among Us
Over the last few days I have been blessed in large and small
ways by strangers, friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues. Life is about
what you can do to make someone else’s life more fulfilling. When you give, you GET so much more. One of the hardest things in the world is to
be on the receiving end of those precious gifts. They are God given. I say that because God pricks the hearts of
his beloved and they “pay it forward.”
Honestly, I was not excited about Christmas this year. Last year at this time I was in ICU and on a
ventilator fighting to survive. It was
hard. Very hard. My family missed
Christmas. Megan missed Christmas with her mama. I missed Christmas. I thought I would feel overjoyed about
Christmas. It turns out that Christmas this year was causing me a LARGE amount
of stress. There are several “angels”
that have stepped in and made things easier for me this Christmas. I have so much to be thankful for: friends,
family, and a merciful God.
Over the last few days, I have realized that Christmas
shouldn’t be causing this turmoil in my life.
Christmas isn’t about what you give. Christmas is about the miracle of
life. It’s nice to be able to give. It’s what I love to do. I’m a self-described GIVER. This year I have learned to accept the gifts
of friends and family. I can’t wait
until I can “pay it forward”. I’m sure
God will lead me to a need that I will be able to meet this Christmas and the
Christmas’ to come. Things are looking
up. Megan’s Christmas is taken care of
this year. I can take a deep breath and really ENJOY the real reason for Christmas.
I truly believe that there are angels among us. There is a song sung by Alabama that speaks
to this belief. I’ve copied and pasted
the lyrics below. If you have an extra
minute, please go to youtube and give it a listen. Many Blessings, Jodie
Angels Among
Us –Alabama
Lyrics
I was walkin'home from school
On a cold winter day,
Took a short cut through the woods
And I lost my way.
It was gettin' late, and I was scared and alone.
Then a kind old man took my hand, and led me home.
Mama couldn't see him,
But he was standing there,
And I knew in my heart
He was the answer to my prayer.
On a cold winter day,
Took a short cut through the woods
And I lost my way.
It was gettin' late, and I was scared and alone.
Then a kind old man took my hand, and led me home.
Mama couldn't see him,
But he was standing there,
And I knew in my heart
He was the answer to my prayer.
Oh, I believe there are Angels Among
Us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.
When life held troubled times
And had me down on my knees
There's always been someone
To come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger
To lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend
Just to say I understand
Now ain't it kind of funny
At the dark end of the road
Someone light the way with just a single ray of hope.
And had me down on my knees
There's always been someone
To come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger
To lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend
Just to say I understand
Now ain't it kind of funny
At the dark end of the road
Someone light the way with just a single ray of hope.
Oh, I believe there are Angels Among
Us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.
They wear so many faces,
Show up in the strangest places
And grace us with their mercies in our time of need.
Show up in the strangest places
And grace us with their mercies in our time of need.
Oh, I believe there are Angels Among
Us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love.
To guide us with a light of love

Definitely one of my absolute favorite songs!! I too have been surrounded by many angels in the year of 2017 with my knee surgery in June. I want so badly to be able to pay it forward and based on some issues resulting from the surgery, I do not feel I can do that as fully as I would like to. My wish is that I can be fully restored and God will present an opportunity where I am fully able to help someone else. I am a much better giver than receiver!! Thank you Jodie for your blog post and being an inspiration to me.
